Palm Oil Conflicts in Indonesia - dataset of 150 Company-community conflicts

This dataset was constructed in the context of KITLV's research project 'Palm Oil Conflicts and Access to Justice in Indonesia' (https://www.kitlv.nl/palm-oil-conflicts-and-access-to-justice-in-indonesia/), and contains both quantitative and qualitative data concerning the trajectories and outcomes of 150 conflicts between palm oil companies and communities in Indonesia. This deposit contains 150 detailed case reports of these conflicts, as well as two dataset that was constructed by coding these case reports: a. A 'case coding dataset' containing data on in terms of key characteristics of these conflicts - such as the character and number of protest events, the use of violence, arrests, the usage and outcomes of conflict resolution mechanisms, as well as assessments of community leaders of the outcomes of these conflicts. b. A 'protest events and claim statement dataset' containing data on protest events that took place during the course of these 150 conflicts, derived from the case reports and newspaper articles.
