data.europa.eu
The European data portal harvests the catalogues of the EU institutions and of all member states, including the Dutch one. On 15 October 2026 it held 1,752,057 datasets from 212 catalogues, 30,119 of them from the Netherlands. You can search via an API and via SPARQL.

data.overheid.nl
The register where Dutch governments list their open datasets. Broad, but descriptions vary in quality and many links are outdated.

Iv3, municipal budgets and accounts
Municipalities submit their budget, four quarterly reports and annual accounts to CBS in a fixed format: Information for third parties (Iv3). CBS publishes these figures unprocessed, per municipality, per policy area (from administration to youth care and waste) and per type of income or expense. There is one table per reporting year, also for provinces, water boards and joint arrangements.

Election results from the Electoral Council
The official results of all elections: House of Representatives, municipal council, provincial, water board, European Parliament and referendums. The results database goes back to 1848 and has a CSV per municipality for each election. For recent elections data.overheid.nl also has the count files (EML) with votes per polling station and per candidate.

National Archives of the Netherlands, finding aids and scans
The National Archives publish their finding aids as open data (CC0) via OAI-PMH, in EAD XML. On 16 October 2026 there were 7,411 finding aids (7,442 sets), each with the description of the archive and its inventory numbers. Where scans exist, each inventory number has a METS file linking to the images (public domain or CC0). Finding aids made by third parties (2.8 percent) are not open data.

open.overheid.nl (FOI documents)
Decisions on freedom of information requests and other released documents from central government and a growing number of municipalities and provinces.
Open Council Information
Agendas, motions, proposals and minutes from hundreds of municipalities in one searchable index, with an open search API.

Overheid.nl search service (SRU)
The search service behind overheid.nl: one SRU address for official announcements (Government Gazette, municipal gazettes, parliamentary papers …), local regulations of municipalities, provinces and water boards, the laws in force and the products and services of government bodies. On 16 October 2026 it held 6.7 million official publications, 344,109 local regulations, 148,592 law texts and 54,667 products. You get metadata in XML with a link to the document.
Dutch court rulings
An open API with all published rulings of Dutch courts: the full text in XML, with area of law, court, case number, date of ruling and a short summary. On 15 October 2026 the index held 3,778,296 ECLIs, of which 967,399 with the text of the ruling. New ones are added every day.

Central government budget (Rijksfinanciën open data)
The Ministry of Finance publishes the budget tables of all ministries and funds through an open API: expenditure, commitments and revenue per chapter, article and scheme, for the budget, the supplementary budgets and the annual report. Plus who received which grant or contribution (financial instruments, 2016–2025). The draft budget for 2027 was already there on 16 October 2026; the Ministry of Education alone accounts for 60.8 billion euros.

TED, European public procurement
TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) is the EU's procurement journal. Every public body buying above the European thresholds must report here: prior information, contract notice, award and modification, with CPV code, contracting authority and often the winner and value. The search API works without a key. In 2025 Dutch contracting authorities published 22,755 notices, over 183,000 since October 2016.

Dutch House of Representatives open data
Everything the House does, as an open API: motions and amendments, how each party voted, written questions, debates and committees, parliamentary papers, and the members themselves, with their side jobs, gifts and trips.

Waarstaatjegemeente.nl (municipal benchmark)
VNG's data hub on all Dutch municipalities. Figures from public sources and from municipalities themselves, in dashboards on social services, housing, energy, safety, finances and more. In the database you build your own tables and maps and export the figures. The publication calendar lists when each source gets new figures.

Wikidata
Wikidata is the free knowledge base behind Wikipedia: millions of items (people, places, buildings, organisations, artworks) with properties and sources, and above all with the IDs other registers use. For the Netherlands these include national monument numbers (P359), CBS municipality codes (P382) and KvK company IDs (P3220). This lets you join datasets that have no common key of their own. Everything is CC0. Note: robots.txt disallows bots on the SPARQL service and the APIs, so the Open Data Index does not query Wikidata itself.
In the harvested indexes
3,024 datasets in data.overheid.nl, the National Georegister and city portals with a subject belonging to this topic: Organisatie en beleid, Bestuur, Gemeenten, Internationaal.
