Data and Scripts Underlying Research on Physiological and Eye-Movement Indices of Emotions During Three Math-Related Tasks

This data was collected as part of S. Lal’s PhD thesis work. Data was collected with undergraduate students during a lab-based experiment. Participants engaged in three math-related tasks—a repetitive shape-matching task, a falling tetrominoes game (Tetris), and a coordinate geometry puzzle for which their answer was never accepted. These tasks were designed to elicit boredom, engagement and frustration/anger, respectively. Prior to the task, participants watched a relaxing video with instrumental music and underwater scenes for baseline measurement. Heart rate, skin conductance, and eye-movement data were collected using the Shimmer3 GSR+ biosensing unit and skin temperature was collected using the Empatica E4 wristband. Emotions were self-reported using the Affect Grid (Russell et al., 1989).
