This dataset contains the data supporting the PhD dissertation of Gokul J Krishnan. It contains both simulation and experimental data underlying the findings in the dissertation. All the data in this dataset was collected/produced during Gokul J Krishnan's PhD project duration between March 2022 and May 2026. The aim of the PhD project was to develop a non-sliding and train-borne tribometer to measure the Coefficient of Friction (CoF) between the wheel and the rail from a running train. Existing methods of train-borne CoF measurement require wheel sliding, or challenging creepage measurements, or rely on wheel-rail contact force models. Each of these methods have significant disadvantage. In this dissertation, we develop a torque-modulaiton-based train-borne CoF measurement system that overcomes the disadvantages of the existing train-borne CoF measurement methods. The torque-modulation-based CoF measurement method is studied through both Simulations and Experiments. Chapters 2 and 3 of the dissertation develops and studies a CoF measurement and CoF classification method, respectively, using co-simulations with ADAMS/VI-Rail and MATLAB/Simulink. Chapters 4 and 5 of the …
