Rijkswaterstaat on ArcGIS Online
The services Rijkswaterstaat hosts in its own ArcGIS Online organisation: 474 feature services and a WFS. On 16 October 2026 we tracked 2,120 of their layers (excluding read-only copies ending in _view). Unlike the provincial servers, every layer has a last-modified date: 650 layers were updated in 2026, the newest on 15 October. It holds yearly traffic volumes on national roads (Inweva 2014 to 2025), every sand nourishment along the coast since 1952, climate risks for the main road network, charging stations, truck parkings and many project maps.

CBS StatLine
The statistics database of Statistics Netherlands: almost 6,000 tables on population, economy, work, housing, energy, care and more, most with long annual, quarterly or monthly series.

Netherlands Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (Emissieregistratie)
The official figures on what the Netherlands emits: greenhouse gases, nitrogen, particulate matter and hundreds of other substances, to air, water and soil. Per sector, per source, per municipality or province, and separately for large companies. From 1990. The Netherlands uses the same figures for its international reporting. The national totals are also available as a CBS table, with an open API.

EMODnet (European marine data)
The European network for marine data in seven themes: bathymetry, geology, physics, chemistry, biology, seabed habitats and human activities. For the Dutch North Sea you'll find wind farms, cables, pipelines, vessel density, wrecks and depth, as map layers (WMS) and data (WFS).
Overijssel Province geoportal (ArcGIS REST)
The ArcGIS REST server of the province of Overijssel: 45 services, each a theme with a B code (B22 roads, B42 energy, B46 nature and landscape, B73 culture …). On 16 October 2026 our index held 436 map layers, together over 20 million features (duplicate layers included), from energy labels of 503,016 homes to 4,040 national monuments. About 60 percent of the layers are also in the National Georegister, as WMS/WFS on the province's GeoServer; this server mainly adds per-feature queries and counts.
Utrecht Province geoservices (ArcGIS REST)
The ArcGIS server of the province of Utrecht. On 16 October 2026 we counted 115 layers in 11 queryable services; the folders medewerkers, review and review_medewerkers return 502. The largest service is Tygron_Basisdata (60 layers), input for the Tygron planning model, including a solar map of 681,784 buildings. Besides that: the Cultural History Atlas (CHAT: military heritage, country estates, agricultural landscape), the Nature Network and the Green contour for the Informatiekaart Nederland, and geographic keys such as 33,162 six-digit postcode areas. The province publishes far more through the National Georegister (495 records).

AGSI+, gas storage in Europe (GIE)
AGSI+ (Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory) by Gas Infrastructure Europe shows per day how much gas is in each European country's storage sites, how much was injected and withdrawn and how full they are, also per operator. News every winter: at the end of October 2025 Dutch storage was 73.6 percent full according to CBS (based on AGSI). The website is free to view; the API needs a free personal key and attribution is mandatory.

KNMI earthquakes
KNMI's earthquake catalogue as an open service: time, place, depth, magnitude and type of every event, plus stations, waveforms and ShakeMaps (ground motion per earthquake). On 16 October 2026 the box around the Netherlands held 4,551 events since 1911, of which 3,493 induced (by gas extraction or mining). In the Netherlands itself that is 2,003 induced earthquakes since 1986; the strongest was Huizinge on 16 August 2012 (magnitude 3.6).

National Energy Dashboard (NED)
The National Energy Dashboard is an initiative of Gasunie and TenneT. It shows how much electricity is generated (solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, per province and per offshore wind farm) and how much gas is used, with a forecast for the coming week and CO2 emissions. An API key is free after creating an account, but the terms only grant a non-transferable right of use. That is why there are no NED figures here; the chart comes from the CBS electricity balance.

Open-Meteo
Open-Meteo turns weather models and reanalyses into one simple JSON API: hourly forecasts (for the Netherlands also the KNMI HARMONIE-AROME model at 2 km), and an archive from 1940 based on ERA5. You ask for a latitude and longitude, not a weather station. The data are CC BY 4.0, but the free API is for non-commercial use only and fewer than 10,000 calls a day. robots.txt on the API hosts disallows all bots, so the Open Data Index does not call Open-Meteo itself.

Our World in Data
More than 4,300 charts (16 October 2026; the sitemap lists 5,425, but 1,109 of those are views of 40 multi-dimensional charts) on climate, energy, health, population and prosperity, with explanations. Behind almost every chart is a CSV with the same figures and a description of the source. The Netherlands is almost always included, next to the rest of the world.

PVGIS, solar power per location
The Joint Research Centre's Photovoltaic Geographical Information System calculates for any coordinate how much sunlight falls and what a solar PV system yields: per year, per month, per hour, for a fixed or tracking system, and a typical meteorological year. It uses radiation data from satellite images (PVGIS-SARAH3 for Europe). There is a web tool and an API without registration. Note: robots.txt disallows all automated visitors, so the Open Data Index does not call PVGIS itself.

Heat potential maps (WarmteAtlas)
Four map services from RVO's WarmteAtlas: the potential for underground heat and cold storage (WKO) per neighbourhood and municipality, biogas and woody biomass per municipality, a map of 2,283 business sites with their CO2 emissions for estimating residual heat, and a raster map of WKO potential in GJ per hectare per year. Mind the age: the neighbourhood and municipal figures are for 2014 (403 municipalities, the boundaries of that time) and the CO2 figures run to 2013. The dates on PDOK (2024 and 2025) are publication dates, not reference dates.
TenneT transparency data
TenneT operates the Dutch high-voltage grid and publishes through an API portal how the grid is kept in balance: imbalance prices and volumes per quarter hour, the activation of reserve power (aFRR, mFRR), the merit order list, available cross-border capacity and metered injections. You need a free key, each API allows only a limited number of requests a day (often only 25), and the terms forbid passing the data on to others. That is why there are no TenneT figures here; the chart comes from the CBS electricity balance.
In the harvested indexes
