Dataset underlying an online experiment: A stop and rethink response to unsustainable practices.

Wat erin zit
In an online experiment, 337 UK respondents were exposed to three production stages (farming, processing, and product forming) of either a pork-, insect-, or plant-based burger. We measured disgust and a stop and re-think mechanism we expected to activate. Participants were assigned to one of the 3 between-subject conditions (pork vs insect vs plant) and asked to carefully read information about the production process of a burger with accompanying images of the process and answer several questions. The following instructions were provided “ We will show you the production process of a pork [insect, made of crickets] [plant] based burger, as it is typically produced in the UK. You will read about 3 main steps in the production process: the origin ([how the pig is farmed] [how the crickets are farmed] [how the vegetables are grown]), the processing (how the [meat] [crickets] [ingredients] is/are processed) and the end-product stage (how this becomes a pork [insect] [plant] -based burger for sale). After each step, you will answer some questions”. To encourage sufficient engagement with the production-process information, the “Next” button became available only after 15 seconds. …
